Beyond his work as a pianist, Wachs is a respected educator and mentor. He recently joined the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University as Visiting Conductor and Caine Scholar Mentor. Previously, he served as Philharmonic Society of Orange County Youth Symphony Orchestra (OCYSO) and Director of Orchestral Activities at Chapman University, where he led one of the nation's first dedicated undergraduate conducting programs. Under his leadership, OCYSO toured Europe twice, collaborated with artists including Midori and the Kronos Quartet, performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall at the invitation of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and, together with The Chapman Orchestra, was featured on PBS and recognized with The American Prize.

As a conductor, Wachs has appeared with leading orchestras in North America, Europe, and the Pacific region, including the National Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and Oakland Symphony. He made his international conducting debut with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg at the Grosses Festspielhaus and has served as Assistant Conductor with the Minnesota Orchestra under Osmo Vänskä, at the Orchestre National de France under Kurt Masur and Sir Colin Davis, the Cincinnati Opera and at the New York City Ballet where Wachs served as Artist in Residence. Recent highlights include conducting Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 at Waldsassen Abbey in Germany, presenting masterclasses at the invitation of the Wolfgang Sawallisch Foundation in Munich, and a critically acclaimed European tour with Sweden's Musica Vitae culminating in a performance at Madrid's Reina Sofía School of Music Auditorium. In April 2026, Wachs made his debut at Carnegie Hall.

Wachs currently resides in Vienna, Austria.

Pianist Daniel Alfred Wachs has earned acclaim for interpretations distinguished by their stylistic insight, technical refinement, and expressive depth. The St. Paul Pioneer Press praised his Mozart performances as “technically impeccable, emotionally powerful,” while the Minnesota Orchestra's Midwinter Mozart Festival hailed his appearances as “a revelation.” His artistry reflects a rare continuity of musical tradition, shaped through close mentorship with artists whose own lineages trace directly to some of the twentieth century’s most influential musical figures.

A frequent soloist and conductor from the keyboard, Wachs has appeared with ensembles including the Minnesota Orchestra and has become particularly sought after for his affinity with the Classical repertoire. Auditioned by Zubin Mehta at the age of eight, he began his studies with Enrique Barenboim (père) in Tel Aviv before continuing in Zürich, where he won First Prize with Distinction at the Schweizerischer Jugendmusikwettbewerb. He subsequently studied at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with Clifton Matthews and, at the encouragement of Lorin Maazel, pursued advanced studies at the Curtis Institute of Music with Seymour Lipkin and at The Juilliard School with Jerome Lowenthal and Otto-Werner Mueller, earning master's degrees in both Piano Performance and Orchestral Conducting. Additional studies with Magda Brard and Ross McKee further enriched his artistic development.

An accomplished chamber musician, Wachs is a prize winner of the Coleman and Pasadena Chamber Music Competitions and maintains an active career as a collaborative pianist. His recital and chamber music appearances have taken him to venues including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Salle Paderewski, and Walt Disney Concert Hall, and he has collaborated with artists such as tenors William Burden and Thomas Glenn. As Music Director and Conductor of Opera Chapman, he helped cultivate the talents of several emerging artists who have since established major international careers, including Ben Bliss, Efraín Solís, Duke Kim, and Janai Brugger.
